Hello my name is Leslie Ruppel, I am here to share my journey as not only as an experienced Lady motorcyclist.
When I was a child I used to ride with my dad. He actually let me set in front once,
When I was a little girl approx..6 yrs old. I felt that sense of freedom even then.
My husband and I began riding with me being a passenger when I was in my early 20’s.
While riding as a passenger was fun, I wanted more, I wanted to be in control.
I wanted to be leaning, I wanted to drive! So only one issue, I didn’t have my own motorcycle. My husband was gracious enough to go to a swap meet in Ohio and bring me back a starter bike 1974 Honda CB 200. I was so excited to have my own machine!! Infact I was so nervous that when I sat down on it I was shaking with excitement!
When I went to dismount from the bike I forgot to put the kickstand down!!!
This was not exactly the smarted move to do, especially trying to show my husband that I could be responsible with such a activity. So he had me to drive around the yard until he was confident that I could manage to keep the wheels rolling without falling over or dumping it. This part was way easier than I thought it would be. Such a thrill!!
Then I had my maiden voyage actually out on the road.
I have always been one who likes to Look at the scenery……………
We took a nice drive in the country through the rolling hills of Southern Indiana.
There was something that caught my eye, it was almost a catastrophe!! I had taken too long viewing and yeo, you guessed it! Off the pavement, my heart dropped, I puckered up,
Thankfully I managed to get back onto the highway, WHEW!!!!! I kept moving along until I arrive at the stop sign at the intersection………. My heart was thumping so fast!!
I learned a valuable 2nd lesson. Where you look you will go!!
Having a new respect for my new toy. I wanted to show my husband that I could do this,
I had to prove to myself that I would accomplish and master this new found freedom! The power was all in the wrist, that would be later called throttle therapy.
I loved riding and quickly graduated to another Motorcycle. This was a such a big jump It was a 1982 Honda 750 Nighthawk, she was so fast!! Her color was like a steel grey I named her Black Betty after the song. By: Rand Jam. She was a fantastic Bike. I drove her for about 4yrs. Then came the issues of being able to maneuver such a heavy bike, Not being able to pick it up from being on her side. I began having back pain that prevented me from riding as long Having already had an injury to my back in the past. So my riding days were limited to waiting until I had a good day with minimal pain. I eventually sold Black betty. No longer riding on my own. I was saddened by this but eventually accepted the days of me riding my own motorcycle were over. In 2016 I had’t ridden in several years. My husband had already been building Trikes since 2006 . This was the New adventure machine for older or disabled people who may not have the ability to hold a bike up or may have issues with having a passenger. This concept completely took all the worry away of dropping it or falling over. My husband began to teach me how to drive a Trike. At last I was feeling that sense of freedom that I had long missed from driving on my own. Having taken away the issue of using my back as much in the same way as a 2 wheeled machine. Here I was on the road again! By this time I had decided that I was completely changing my career, due to not being able to do the work I had known most of my life, caregiving. My husband had taken ownership of AJ Cycle in 2015. I was going through many health issues regarding mold toxicity. I barely survived in 2016 due to being septic. I began helping my husband in lhe business and quickly had a desire drive a Trike. I wanted to drive a Trike on my own. My license had lapsed I forgot to renew it so then I had to go through the testing phase again. I had to get a Trike endorsement. Once that was accomplished I was all set to get on the road!! In the early spring of 2017 We were introduced to the Ultimate Trike The Rewaco. A German made machine. This machine had only been in the United States since 2013. We were asked to drive this machine and both of us fell in love!! I can say without a doubt this machine is the best machine on the road when it comes to three wheels!! When I drive the Rewaco I have no pain in my back!!! I can drive it all day long!! WHAT a machine!! The rest is history, We became a Dealer for these machines and have been having a blast since!! In fact we are having the first Indiana Rewaco Rally April 26th &27th 2024 While there are only a limited amount of dealers in the country The Rewaco company Has been terrific working with them. They have gained a great following and many many people have chosen to become a member of the Rewaco family.
